Pierce Fire Department
The Pierce Fire Department is a very progressive fire department, with an outstanding group of people that take on the challenges of today’s world. The responsibilities of firefighters/EMT’s have evolved over the years. Homes are much safer today so we encounter less structure fires. However, due to today’s synthetic materials, fires tend to burn hotter and faster than ever before. This makes our job far more dangerous and requires that our personal-protective equipment (PPE) be built better to handle this increased danger. It also requires intense training on specialty evolutions to handle such calls.
The Pierce Fire Volunteer Department is comprised of dedicated volunteers committed to safeguarding lives and property. With three essential divisions – Fire, Rescue, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) – we stand ready to respond to emergencies with skill, professionalism, and unwavering dedication.
🔥 Fire Division: Our Fire Division consists of 40 courageous firefighters and 6 cadets, most are state-certified and trained in a myriad of specialties including Haz-mat operations, Ice Rescue, Grain Bin Rescue and Swift Water Rescue. Despite the challenges, our firefighters stand prepared to confront any emergency, equipped with the necessary expertise and commitment to duty.
🚑 Rescue Division: The Rescue Division, comprising 28 highly trained EMTs and EMRs, is at the forefront of providing critical medical care and rescue operations. With compassion and expertise, our rescue members are dedicated to serving those in need, ensuring that every life is valued and protected.
🚨 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT): Our CERT Division, consisting of 18 dedicated volunteers, plays a vital role in bolstering community resilience and disaster response. Trained in assisting with Haz-mat decontamination and Traffic Incident Management, our CERT members stand ready to support professional responders and safeguard our community during times of crisis.
🛩️ Drone Team: Additionally, our department is proud to have a specialized Drone Team with 4 licensed pilots. Leveraging advanced technology, our drone team enhances our emergency response capabilities, providing invaluable aerial support for firefighting, search and rescue missions and disaster assessment.
Safety is our top priority. All members of each division spend countless hours attending training classes ensuring that we are prepared to provide life-saving interventions in any situation.
As a volunteer-based department, we rely on a combination of tax dollars, donations, and fundraising events to sustain our operations. However, the rising costs of essential lifesaving equipment pose a significant challenge, with the prices of protective gear and new equipment far exceeding our budget constraints.
Despite these challenges, our commitment to serving and protecting our community remains unwavering. We are deeply grateful for the support of our residents and stakeholders, whose generosity enables us to continue our mission of safeguarding lives and property.
